Over the past several weeks, we have gone through addiction, the general definition and how it may show up in people’s lives. So what do you do with this information?
First, if you see people in your life that any of these posts may pertain to, it is helpful to express your emotions to them and identify the impact their behaviors have on you. It is NOT your job or your place to tell them what to do.
Second, if you notice any of these showing up in your own life, I really encourage you to find two people you trust and ask for feedback on what they see. If you already know it’s impacting any of your life areas more than you would like, there are specific ways addiction therapists walk through those impacts with you to figure out how to move forward differently.
Finally, we are all humans made for connection. Often these behaviors can create disconnection and even isolation. When we feel wholly connected to others, our need to find or use effective behaviors that may be negatively impacting our lives decreases. So, find your people, show up with vulnerability, care for them and allow them to care for you.
